Just weeks after trimming a massive budget shortfall from nearly $35 million down to about $6 million, the Judson Independent School District is facing fresh scrutiny. The Texas Education Agency has launched an investigation into the conduct of the district's school board and allegations surrounding meeting notice violations.
The probe comes amid growing concerns over how board members have handled recent decisions and whether proper public notice was given for certain meetings. State officials are looking into claims that the board may have violated the Texas Open Meetings Act, which requires transparency and advance notification for official gatherings. If confirmed, such violations could undermine public trust and lead to legal consequences for board members.
The investigation adds pressure to a district already navigating a difficult financial recovery. The budget shortfall had forced difficult cuts and raised questions about fiscal management. Now, with the TEA stepping in, Judson ISD must also address governance issues while trying to stabilize its finances.
District leaders have not yet released a detailed response to the investigation, but the outcome could reshape board operations and affect how the community views its elected officials. The TEA has not set a timeline for completing the review.
