Families, community partners, and local leaders gathered Wednesday morning to celebrate the grand opening of Golden Charter Academy's new campus in Fresno. The school, which serves students in transitional kindergarten through eighth grade, has designed its facilities and curriculum around environmental education and sustainability.
The new campus features outdoor learning spaces, a garden area, and classrooms built with eco-friendly materials. School officials say the focus on the environment is meant to give students hands-on experience with nature while meeting state academic standards. Students will take part in projects like planting, composting, and studying local ecosystems as part of their regular lessons.
During the ceremony, several speakers highlighted the importance of connecting children to the natural world, especially in an urban setting. Parents in attendance said they were drawn to the school's mission and the chance for their kids to learn in a setting that values the outdoors.
The academy plans to expand its environmental programs over the coming years, including partnerships with local conservation groups. Enrollment for the current school year is open, with tours available for families interested in the new campus.
