Education deal aims to keep students local

Education deal aims to keep students local

A new agreement between a local college and a university is designed to give students a stronger reason to stay in Northampton for their higher education. The deal creates a clear pathway for students to move from a college-level program directly into a university degree without having to leave the area.

Officials from both institutions say the goal is to reduce the number of young people who travel to other cities for their studies. By offering a seamless transfer process, the partnership hopes to keep more talent and energy within the local community. Students who complete their initial courses at the college will be guaranteed a spot in related degree programs at the university, provided they meet the entry requirements.

The plan also aims to lower the financial burden on families. Staying local means students can often live at home, saving money on rent and travel. For the city itself, retaining students helps support the local economy and builds a stronger workforce for the future. Both schools are now working on marketing the program to current students and local high schools. The first cohort under this new deal is expected to begin their studies in the fall.
