Conservative groups are working together to expand classical Christian education by tapping into new taxpayer-funded scholarship programs. The Association of Classical Christian Schools recently formed a coalition with Turning Point Education and other partners to help families access state money that can be used for private school tuition.
The push comes as several states have created education savings accounts and voucher-style programs in recent years. These programs allow parents to use public funds to pay for private schooling, including religious institutions. Supporters say the money gives families more choices, while critics argue it diverts resources from public schools.
Classical Christian schools focus on a traditional curriculum built around grammar, logic and rhetoric, often with heavy emphasis on Western history and Christian theology. Enrollment in these schools has grown steadily over the past decade, and leaders say the new scholarship money is accelerating that trend.
The coalition plans to help schools navigate state requirements, connect families with available funds and share strategies for growth. Organizers say demand from parents is strong, particularly in states where the programs are newly available. They expect more schools to open or expand in the coming years as the funding becomes easier to access.
Opponents of the programs say oversight is limited and question whether taxpayer money should support religious instruction. Legal challenges are ongoing in several states. For now, the coalition is moving ahead, betting that the scholarship programs will keep expanding and bring a new wave of students into classical Christian classrooms.
