Agriculture is no longer just about plows and sows. The ever-changing technological landscape has created ag-adjacent jobs that did not even exist a few decades ago, and one farming organization is working to make sure local students understand the scope of those opportunities.
The Farm Bureau has launched a renewed push to plant the seeds of agricultural education in local schools, aiming to show students that modern farming extends far beyond the field. Careers in drone mapping, soil data analysis, supply chain logistics, and agricultural technology are now part of the picture, and organizers say young people need to see those paths early.
The effort includes classroom visits, hands-on demonstrations, and conversations with people who work in the industry. Organizers say the goal is to connect what students learn in science and math classes to real jobs that exist in their own communities.
Teachers have welcomed the support, noting that many students have little firsthand exposure to farming even when they live near it. By bringing agriculture into the classroom, the program hopes to spark interest in a sector that is hiring and evolving.
Organizers say they plan to expand the program in the coming school year, with more schools and more sessions focused on technology and sustainability. The message to students is simple: agriculture is modern, technical, and full of careers worth exploring.
