Hunter education classes filled quickly this year, leaving many prospective hunters without a seat. In response, numerous residents volunteered to teach the course, and the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office launched a volunteer program to help meet demand. Even so, available spots were claimed fast, and some residents could not get scheduled into a course before the season.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is reminding the public that a temporary exception program offers another route. By applying for an exemption, individuals who have not completed hunter education may still be able to hunt this fall. The program is meant to ease the bottleneck caused by high enrollment and limited class capacity, while keeping safety and responsibility at the center of the state's hunting tradition.
Officials encourage anyone interested to review the requirements and apply as early as possible, since processing takes time and the fall season is approaching. Residents who still hope to take a standard course should also keep checking for newly added sessions, as volunteer instructors continue to step forward across the region. The department notes that the exception is temporary and does not replace the long-term expectation that hunters complete certified education.
