Woman killed, another wounded at Oakland education center

Family members have identified the victim killed in a shooting at an East Oakland education center as a 25-year-old woman who was attending a class when the gunfire erupted. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at the facility, which serves adult learners in the community.

According to relatives, the woman was in the middle of a session when a suspect entered the building and opened fire. She was struck multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene. A second woman, whose age has not been released, was also hit and was transported to a local hospital. Her condition has been described as stable, though she remains under observation.

Police have not yet announced a motive for the attack. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses who were inside the building at the time. Several students described hearing a series of loud pops followed by screaming and chaos as people ran for exits.

The center has been closed for the rest of the week while authorities process the scene and provide counseling for staff and students. Community leaders have scheduled a vigil for Thursday evening outside the facility. The deceased woman's family is asking for privacy as they make funeral arrangements, but they have called for anyone with information to come forward to police. No arrests have been made so far.
