Wiregrass and ABAC partner on elementary education degree pathway

Wiregrass and ABAC partner on elementary education degree pathway

TIFTON - A new partnership between Wiregrass Georgia Technical College and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is making it easier for students to earn a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Under the agreement, Wiregrass students who complete an associate degree can now transfer directly into ABAC's elementary education program without losing credits or repeating coursework.

The pathway is designed for students who want to teach in elementary schools but prefer to start at a technical college before moving to a four-year university. Wiregrass offers lower tuition and smaller class sizes, which can help students save money and build a strong academic foundation. Once they finish their associate degree, they can move to ABAC's campus in Tifton to complete the remaining requirements for a bachelor's degree and teacher certification.

Officials from both schools say the partnership addresses a growing need for qualified teachers in rural Georgia. School districts in the region have struggled to fill elementary teaching positions, and this program aims to produce more graduates who are ready to work in local classrooms. Students in the pathway will also have access to advising from both institutions to ensure a smooth transition.

The agreement took effect this semester. Wiregrass students interested in the program should contact their academic advisor for details on course requirements and transfer steps.
