Robots for Tots: Annual Program Promotes STEM Education

October 10, 2026 - 06:09

A hands-on robotics event aimed at young children returned this year, giving kids a chance to build, code, and experiment with simple machines. The annual program, designed for early learners, focuses on making science, technology, engineering, and math feel approachable rather than intimidating.

Organizers set up stations where children assembled small robots from kits, tested basic sensors, and watched their creations move across the floor. Volunteers guided each activity, offering help when a wheel fell off or a motor refused to start. The goal was not to produce perfect machines but to encourage curiosity and problem solving.

Parents said the event gave their kids a rare chance to learn by doing. Many children who had never written a line of code before left knowing how to make a robot turn or stop. Teachers involved in the program noted that early exposure to these skills can shape how students view technical subjects later in school.

The program has grown steadily since it began, and organizers hope to expand it to more locations next year. By keeping the activities simple and playful, they aim to show that STEM education can start long before middle school.
