From Miami to the World: How a Miami 16-year-old is scaling access to tech education

A problem-solving mindset led Arihant to create a youth-driven organization focused on technology education. The 16-year-old senior at Cushman High School now serves as co-founder and president of the nonprofit Young Coders Initiative, a homegrown educational movement that has expanded beyond Miami to reach students around the world.

The organization began with a simple observation: access to quality tech education remains uneven, and many young people lack the resources or guidance to explore coding and computer science. Rather than waiting for institutions to close that gap, Arihant built a structure led by students, for students. The model pairs peer mentorship with hands-on workshops, giving participants a low-pressure entry point into programming while also creating leadership opportunities for older teens who teach.

What started as a local effort has grown into an international network. Chapters now operate in multiple regions, adapting the core curriculum to fit different communities and age groups. Volunteers design lessons, run virtual sessions, and organize in-person events that introduce beginners to foundational skills. The focus stays practical: participants build small projects, learn to debug, and gain confidence through repetition rather than lectures.

Supporters point to the organization's flexibility as a key reason for its growth. Because chapters operate with a degree of autonomy, local leaders can respond to specific needs, whether that means offering introductory Python classes, web development basics, or guidance on pursuing further study in technology fields.

For Arihant, the work reflects a broader belief that age should not limit contribution. The nonprofit continues to recruit volunteers and partners with schools and community groups, aiming to make tech education feel accessible rather than intimidating. As the organization scales, its founders say the mission remains unchanged: give young people the tools to solve problems with technology, starting wherever they are.
