What can happen when a global education-focused community and a regional Wikimedia hub connect their existing work? For the EduWiki Hub and the Wikimedia East, Southeast Asia and the Pacific (ESEAP) Hub, the answer is a partnership aimed at widening access to Wikimedia education resources across a vast and diverse region.
The two groups have built a working relationship that links the global education network with regional coordinators, educators, and volunteers. The goal is to make it easier for schools, universities, and community programs to use Wikimedia projects as teaching tools. Instead of duplicating efforts, the partnership focuses on sharing materials, coordinating training, and helping local teams adapt resources to their own languages and contexts.
The ESEAP region covers a wide span of countries and communities, each with different needs and levels of experience with Wikimedia education programs. By connecting with the EduWiki Hub, regional organizers gain a direct line to global expertise, while the hub gains ground-level insight into what works in classrooms and community settings across the region.
The collaboration also emphasizes peer learning. Educators and volunteers can exchange case studies, toolkits, and practical advice on running edit-a-thons, student assignments, and teacher training sessions. This kind of exchange helps newer programs avoid common pitfalls and build on proven approaches.
Both groups describe the partnership as a bridge rather than a merger. Each keeps its own identity and priorities, but they now share a channel for communication and joint planning. The next steps include coordinated outreach, shared documentation, and support for regional events that bring educators together.
For students and teachers, the practical result is simpler access to guidance and training. For the Wikimedia movement, it means stronger ties between global education work and the regional communities that carry it forward.
