Billy Idol Set to Meet Students at Downey Middle School

Rock singer Billy Idol will visit a Downey middle school on Oct. 22 to meet with students and support music education, organizers announced Thursday. The musician, known for hits such as "White Wedding" and "Rebel Yell," is taking part in a nationwide initiative connected to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The program aims to keep music programs alive in schools and give young people a chance to connect with artists who built careers in the industry.

Idol, who is among the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, will speak with students during the visit. The event is expected to include conversations about creativity, persistence, and the role music can play in a student's life. School officials said the visit offers a rare chance for students to hear directly from a performer whose work has shaped rock music for decades.

The initiative behind the visit focuses on protecting access to music classes at a time when many schools face budget cuts. Supporters argue that hands-on exposure to working artists can spark lasting interest in music and the arts. Students and staff at the school are preparing for the event, which organizers describe as both a celebration of music and a push to keep it part of everyday education.
